Anyone use wheel adapters and what are the pros and cons of using them ? Are they safe . I know that the new ones are made from 6061 aluminum alloy . I'm thinking of purchasing some .
Hey bigrigfixer, I'm not going to use them as spacers, but to change bolt patterns. I need to mount some old wheels so I can move my truck around in the garage. Also I do have two sets of wheels with different bolt patterns. And room is at a premium in my garage.
Lots of people use them reliably without problems. You should be okay. If you were going to use them as spacers, well, there is a maximum. I'm not sure what the maximum is though, and that's not what you're doing, so never mind.
Hey bigrigfixer, thanks for the input . The major drawback to these adapters is the cost . Because of my particular hub to wheel size (5x4.5 hub to 5x5.5 wheel), it's going to cost me about $175.00. Dang . Oh well. Again, thanks for the input .
We used them on trailers years ago. If you are going to drive with them use a torque wrench and the bolts and check them daily. we had them come loose abot every 200 miles when torqued and we had one come off after 50 miles!
those size rims are very easy to come by, for way less than the adapters, I would think it easier and cheaper to buy some steelies from a salvage yard...
I've read that those adapters do come loose . I used to have the old style cast wheel adapters, but never had one ever come loose or come off on me. Like I said before, space is at a premium. Stupid me . I just remembered that I do have a set of original Torq Thrust D's that fit my truck . I could put on a set of may-pops. Then I could roll the truck around in my garage. Thanks guys for your input; much appreciated.
