While searching for trucks before i bought one, 2 different dealers said that they could install a performance chip that would not void warrenty under any circumstance since it was ford approved. I think they said it was done by superchips maybe. I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this for me. Thanks, oh i have a 04 6.0L powerstroke.
Both in NC, the salesman said it could put in the contract. Threy said Ford had a deal with one of the chip producers or something. It all could BS but thought i would ask to see if anyone knew anything. Thanks for the help
The dealer in Alberta, where I bought my truck sells chips as well. They made the same statement to me when I bought my truck. I went with the Banks system on my 6.0L.I had the banks powerpack on my 2000 7.3L never a problem with truck.
I doubt it VERY seriously since Ford is voiding warranty CLAIMS right and left if chips are involved....
and since "Ford" provides the warranty, the dealer cannot supercede it unless they will foot the repair bills.... and I don't thinkt hey make THAT much money off the profit of a few chips !!! (and besides the 6.0L will not accept a "CHIP" )
and how long do you really think they'll do that ?
I put that more in the realm of "salesman" speak...
and good luck on warranty work in the future !
Make sure you have all of that in writing, and even then, I'd be prepared for a battle!
JD is right, they don't make near enough profit selling a few chips to pay for a turbo or transmission etc. , that the "factory" has decided not to cover under warranty.
Even if they "put it in writing", it would end up YOUR EXPENSE to fight them in court, when they decide they won't pay for a repair out of their pocket....
You may be correct, I have never had any warranty issues denied. The dealer that I use sell these in the parts department. The service manager all the way up to the owner of the delership are aware of my banks system as well. Like you stated they may be covering this internally.

Total BS ,they are going to charge you to install a plug and play device ,the new Chips just plug in under the dash .i have heard staories of dealers trying tell people that if they install a K&N they will warranty it dealers are the worst they would _______________ their mothers if they had a chance
There are several dealers out in this area that are installing systems and warrenting them. My brother in law has such truck (04 cc FX4) with everything from the dealer. He was also shown some engines that had scored cylinders from running he said predators that were being taken care of.
the dealer was told to hold the trucks for inspection and that they were looking for switches etc but they couldn't find anything. so they were OK to be replaced. Dont know if they tried to scan the computer or not but that may be next.
These are fairly high volume dealers, my dealer sales and service folks said to put a system on it and change the exhaust, but I dont think I will at this time at least not a programmer.
