well i was just getting ready to head off to work and hopped in to start her and she wont start. it cranks , and seems like it should run . it almost seems like its not getting fuel, its got a brand new battery , and starter .
wierd thing was while cranking trying ot get it to go , and i go to turn it off and it wouldnt turn off. anyone else had this problem?
im thinking its the ingition switch, its been really hard to turn lately. and its been extremelt cold around here lately.
please help, i have a trip to go on friday , and i dont want ot have otskip it because i dont have a ride.
from what i remember the igntion switch is a pain in the butt to replace also , any help or hints would be greatly appreciated.
Well there are several issues it could be. Let me first ask you a few questions. Can you turn the key? When you turn the key do you get any signs of electricity (ie, dash lights, solenoid click, starter engaging, etc) If you do get electricity what made you think its a gas problem? There are a number of things to check but first lets get some important numbers, What year is the truck, what engine, do you have 12 volts, are you getting enough amperage.
From my experience (and this is not a list to limit things) there are a couple problems I've had that sound similar. My ignition switch went out, my computer went out, and my cat was so clogged I couldn't get it to turn over. There are a hundred other reasons so lets try and narrow it down.
Good luck and don't give up on that trip til you've tried everything. One post is sometimes just a start now I'd try again.
1989 bronco fullsize , 302 motor, auto, yep the key turns , very roughly , but it does turn, and i have to turn the key back when it did start, it doesnt return to the postion its supposed after it starts.
when i was cranking it it sounds like everything is normal except it wont fire up. all elec works , i checked all fuses. then while cranking it and finally giving up and calling for a ride to get to work , i stopped cranking it and it kept cranking , i had to jiggle the ignition alot to get it to stop cranking.
my buddy is picking up the elec and mech part of the ignition for me so when i get back from work ,i can replace it , and see if thats the problem.
it very well could be frozen fuel line , but it supposed to warm up before i get back to my truck , so hopefully that will be ruled out by the time i get back. i couldnt tell if the fuel pump was running because i was cranking the key.
im going to check and see if its getting spark, and then check to see if the fuel pump is running also. after that im lost.
I'd say its probably the ignition. When mine froze (not from temperature) I had the same problem and now after the replacement the key does not rotate back to the "neutral" position, neutral meaning "on" in this case.
well heres an update of the problem, im out of town for work , so my buddy went over to drop off parts and pick up some tools , the truck started right up , no problem. i am guessing its fuel line was frozen, im going to add some ethanol or what ever the parts place suggests , and since i have the parts im going to replace the ignition , both mechanical and electrical, and im going to replace the strater soleniod for giggles. the temp has risen pretty good so im pretty sure it must have been a frozen fuel line.
