Shop tips

Any shop tips for us Western Canadian truck types, somethings that you have found useful and time/money saving? In my case I have a hard time to keep my shop clean and a safe place to work in as I am a confirmed packrat, find it hard to throw anything away as some day it might come in handy. Realizing that it takes too much space to store too much so often crunch time comes, it causes alot of stress but needs to be done. Another observation is to get the biggest aircompressor that you can afford or bigger because that will save grief later as more and bigger air tools are added. Remember you can never have enough tools, right?

Best shop tip I know for old fords POR15 unbelivable stuff!!!

great paint/coating for rust restoration areas.
tips: no uv rating
loves to get wet water hardens por15(once it's dry)
Great on gas tanks
once open double saran wrap the lid or y'll never get it open again
store in the fridge it lasts longer
expensive but worth it

I was just doing some reading on this very subject tonight. The inside of my cab corners, inner wheel wells, and frame are going to need some king of corrosion inhibitor. At the past meeting Paso1 suggested zero rust and to be honest I had never heard of it before and didn't pay much interest (what an a$$).

After looking at several posts on the pro's and cons of each, I was convinced that zero rust is a superior product. There were a few people who lived in similar climates to ours that claimed once you got a chip (por15) moisture would travel under the paint and huge strips (like skin) would start peeling off. There's even a link to a guy who painted his car with the stuff.

Price isn't really much of a factor when shopping for certain items for this truck (I believe in doing it right the first time), but it's interesting to note zero rust's cost is less than por 15.

This topic is being discussed on the 48 - 60 forums actively.
