rear main

You might go up and ask the guys in the diesel forum. I don't know much about diesels, but I know in a gas engine, there are leaks that can look like a rear main, such as a rear mounted oil sending unit, rear intake gasket, rear oil galley plug leaking, and sometimes a valve cover gasket is mistaken for a rear main leak.

I too don't know much about deisels, but on a gas engine I have found that a clogged PCV valve in the valve cover will actually build up enough crankcase pressure to push oil out the rear main seal.

Changing the PCV valve and not the rear main seal can eliminate a big rear main seal leak.

Worth checking out.
