Piece-o-crap Dash

the dash on my 92 dually is the sorriest peice of workmanship i have ever seen, (my 81 is still in 1 piece) all the plastic has cracked or broken. the black bezel is falling off, and chunks are falling out daily! does anyone know if there is a aftermarket that sells replacements? i need the whole dash, A/C vents& bezel.

I would try a junk yard. My 1992 XLT is in ggod shape, except a few scratches. The only problem is that the dual tank switch busted one day, I had to epoxy it back in, because the tabs on the dash cracked. I never cleaned it, or tried protective finishes, it still has a good color and everything is tight, no rattles, It is the first dashboard I ever had that didn't fall apart or split.

I was going to suggest maybe its your climate, however I see you're in VA so you're not subjected to 110 degree weather. Maybe it was installed incorrect from the factory, and things torqued as you've driven the vehicle.

But anyway, a junkyard (or ebay, I've seen two complete dashes pass through in the last year, worth a peek) and grab everything you need.

most of the divits that hold the screws have busted, and the nutplates have fallen out! since it is '92 (first year) it probably got a bad batch of plastic...

Probably, or maybe the truck was bounced off-road a lot. it is a plastic dash.

It also has less mounting points than the older style dash (the flat-nose trucks, 91 and back), and reaches into the passenger compartment more, whereas the older style dash was more of a vertical dash with "wings' around the steering column, for lack of a better description.

Yanno, before you spend too much time trying to find one, I'd at least try gluing the broken pieces back on first, and see if it holds. If not, then you can go hunting.

Ford had a problem with the dash mount/support bracket cracking on the passenger side (just above the kick panel) which caused alot of added flexing/stress to the dash. You might want to check that bracket to see if it is cracked/broken and repair it before it causes anymore damage. If it is broken and you can't repair it, Ford does make a repair kit for it.

yup its broke to! its just that all the little squares that hold the speed nuts for the ash tray, inst. cluster, trim ring, lower right bracket...etc have broken and are no longer holding. the fuel switch broke out a while back..i epoxied that in... now the ring is falling off! there are 3 big holes behind the screw access panels on either side of the steering wheel. looks to me like the plastic just rotted out! i have washers on screws to hold it for now, but like isaid the speed nuts are falling out...i don't want another old one with the same problem.
