Not that I have seen a D-tec up close and personal, but I thought they got rid of the dual plug head with the passing of the Lima engine?
If you don't find 2 coil packs or 8 spark plug wires running around the engine, you probably only have 4 and a different year owner's manual (I hope).
(AutoZone's site was no help...couldn't find anything put together on Google, een the Rangerstation is 'members only' entrance now.)

The other 4 plugs are under the intake manifold. Look closely and you'll see them in there, laughing at you and taunting you to remove them. 
They're not that bad, but it does take a little time to replace them.
