cold start

I had adjusted the electric choke perfectly about 2 weeks ago and it would start right away and only need a few revs before it idled by itself without quitting. It was chilly then but not cold like it was today..like 35 degrees today. Anyway it needed a little more revs from me before it held idle. I would have to keep surging the idle. if i would hold it at like 3000 rpms it would choke and then quit. So like i said I have to surge it. Should I advance the choke a little more?

It sounds like the choke is closed TOO far. What I mean is the choke plate is supposed to open slightly when the engine starts. It uses a vacuum chamber to do this. There is a fast idle cam and adjustment screw on the pass. side of the carb under the choke mechanism, make sure that the cam is moving into position when you open the throttle(engine cold). It should hold the throttle at a fast idle position until the choke opens. What is likely happening is it is flooding from the choke being totally shut.
