I don't have much luck painting large surfaces with a touchup gun because of uneven coverage. The spray pattern isn't very large and using a 50% overlap, you will be painting all day. You will be refilling the gun before you finish a panel and will be a problem with fast drying paints. The good news is a touchup gun doesn't need much air and most compressors can keep up. ...Terry
You can paint about anything with a touch up gun.
On full panels etc it just takes more time and drying
and flow out issues must be addressed. What
has always bothered me is your paint supply is
limited because of tiny pot size. So just about the
time you get a shooting rythm going you are out
of paint. If small compressor capacity if one of
your problems I would recommend using a full
size gun and just stop spraying while your compressor
catches up. You can test all of this by doing a
dry "or wet" run by using water and shooting a panel.
Things are going to play out a little different depending
on whether you have a hvlp or suction touch up gun.
There has been some inteeresting threads on the forum
regarding guys that have rattle canned their whole truck.
The consensus was that it took a lot of time, actually
cost about what a inexpensive spray rig would, got
reasonable results but paint only lasted a couple of years.
thanks guys, I forgot to tell all Im going to be using large strips of vinyl tape in the makeover and will only need to paint inside the tape lines. It would be all shot but under the tape wont need to all that good. L.S.
