Lightbulb Bug, Stone Deflectors

Do these deflectors really worK or are they just for looks? I have never owned one but I am thinking of getting one, but not if they really dont work. I dont think they look all that great. I am mostly interested in windshield protection from stones.
I am thinking they only work on bugs but not stones.
Can anyone who owns one comment on the them.

They mainly keep the bugs and stones off the front part of your hood. The windshield is freakin' magnet for both in my case!

I bought mine for two reasons. 1. I like the looks of the low profile and 2. to protect the front of the hood. I still get little rocks hitting the windshield and I still get bugs, maybe not as many but I still get them.

the airflow isnt going to be enough to get most stones, it should help your windshield with the bugs though.

The large profile ones may cause some hood vibration at speed.

The bug shield is just for looks they do keep the bugs of the hood and as far as
the windshield the bugs still hit it in the drivers view

on my 97 the bug deflector worked on bugs around 45mph but on stones it had to be at high speeds.and then i,m really not sure if it had anything to do with the deflector.i live 3 miles from a cory so i,m not taking a chance, alot of dump trucks in the area.i hate that sticker "NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR OBJECTS LEAVING THIS TRUCK" or "THIS VECHICLE STAY BACK 20 FT" like a stone wont clear 20' and hit my truck. at 70mph me and the rock meet in less than 2 seconds.

That absolute BS about them not being responsible for crap falling off their trucks no matter what signs they have on them... They put those signs on there to scare off people that will believe it.....don't... If you broke a windshield from something that came off their truck get the plate number off that truck and confront them. If they blow you off go to your insurance company and explain it to them. They'll go after them to recover damages. A short note from one of their(or your) lawyers and they'll be writting a check in a day..

Try driving with ice or snow on top of your vehicle, have it blow off and hit another car... Your butt will swing..

Here in Missouri and I am sure many other states that is considered an accident and you could make a report if you want to. I know in Iowa my sister had a rock or something propelled from another vehicle she got the guys name and all and her insurance paid because they were lazy and didn't want to pursue the matter.

Bug deflectors

Just a word of warning:
I installed a Stampede and had to remove it because I had crazy hood shimmy at any speed over 65.

3m makes a clear film, that will cover the hood. I'm not sure how good they are, but I do know they make it
