What kind of gas mileage are you getting? I have a 2004 6.0 diesel and I'm getting about 15 hwy/13 city...is that average? Also, what mods have you found to improve average mpg the most?
I have an '04 CC FX4 with 3:73 gears. I was averaging 18 to 19 mpg with mostly highway driving. That was until Oct (with blended fuel coming out). Now that it's cold and using blended fuel I am getting 14-15. That is with the hubs locked in a lot (I have manuals) and using 4x4 more too.

With my 05 auto, 4x4, 3.73 gears and 3000 mi I get 16 mpg city 19 mpg highway.
I have a 04 F-350 DRW 2wd Flatbed I used to get around 12.6 MPG. I just installed a Edge Juice with the Attitude moniter it has raised it to around 14.5 to 15 MPG city driving.
I am getting between 14 and 14.5 combined city/highway. For me it doesn't seem to make much difference city/hwy but I am only going by the overhead computer. I suspect the difference in the 13-15 guys and the 15-17 guys is related more to driving habits than anything in the truck. I have absolutely nothing to base this on. It is strictly my hypothesis. I know I don't baby mine for better mileage and will run here real hard on the interstate. I am ususally a bit more sane in the city.
I have an early (March) 03 with Torqshift and 3.73 LS diff. I have a Glasstite cap over the bed. I just drove from Austin to Bay Area, CA. First day with 30 mph headwind, I got 14.5 mpg. This thing is as aerodynamic as a bevelled brick. Rest of way was 18-20mpg depending on weather and terrain. Around town I get 16-17. I have the latest flash that came out Nov 04.
Short story: 45,500 miles- 15.5 mpg combined city/hwy and 17.4-19.0 mpg highway roadtrips.
Long story: I am not a hick, but I basically live in the sticks (surrounded by mountains). I drive a lot of highway miles in my "combined city/hwy" mpg calculations. Also, I drive 75-85 mph (fast but legal) on the highway at high altitude, do a lot of driving for business and ski in the mountains every chance I get. This is completely different from other 6.0 owners that I know in my area that drive a short distance to work and essentially have very few highway miles in their combined mpg calculations.
Altitude, distance, speed, idle time, driving style, city vs hwy driving play a big role in mpg calculations.
If my father owned my exact truck in Miami (at sea level) driving a lot of highway miles, he would probably be reporting 20 mpg... And his name is Grandpa.
