Unhappy Have a problem changing rotors! help please!

i have a 93 bronco and i am doing the front rotors... now i am about ASE master certified so i know my stuff but this stumps me... i guess there was a swap on my bronco because of warrenty reason for replaced my "5 screw design" with a new "3 screw design" hub... i have the book on my truck and the teardown is different from the book... i need to get the 4wd hub locking nut off now to get the rotors off.. the thing is that i have gone to every parts store around and they have the socket for that purpose but NONE of them work! now the socket is like half an inch too big and the prongs are too big to even fit in the locking nut... it is not an original setup so it still has the auto hubs on it but ford really screwed me on this newer design stuff.. if anyone has any advice on how to remove the locknut or if they used a different socket then what they call for PLEASE tell and any comments or ?s if you dont understand please post!
-GO FORD BLUE -THANKS

Too Obvious

I once forgot to remove the little C washer and magnetic splined locking washer and had the same problems.

You can use a soft punch and a hammer too.

I used some small dental picks and a small hammer to just nudge it off. This nut should have a bunch of small holes in it. It turns the normal right-tight/left-loose.

If your sockets are to big your using the ones for the Dana 60. I have both sets for Dana 44 and Dana 60 and the 60's are probably your problem because they are bigger then the 44...

There isn't a socket on the three bolt hub that would remove it. It's a small retaining ring with multiple holes in it.

That sounds like the lock washer between the two nuts. It's splined and attaches to the inside nut with a pin (not an issue). Just use a magnet or a pick to pull it out. It might be jammed a little so try and turn it a little clockwise to take any preload off of it. Then pull it out and the inside nut is the same as the outside one and should just spin off by hand (with the socket).

hey thanks for all of your ideas! i finally got that thing off! since there was so much grease on the d@mn thing i finally saw that maybe the outside ring had a slant to it like a rounded socket almost... so i was thinking maybe the hub was not the right 93 hub... turns out it wasent... it was hubs from the 95 and newer trucks! i guess someone replaced the hubs before so i had no idea but thanks guys!

Here is a link with a great break down with pictures on replacing your ball joints. Just stop when you get your hubs removed...then save the link for the future if you haven't already replaced your ball joints. Pretty easy to do.

IF the hub lock tool is what I think you are talking about .... It is called a Spanner Wrench. Looks like a thin socket with 4 prongs...about the size of a small can of soup...biut smaller.

No actually, thats what I thought, its a six sided socket, thin, actual sizes is 2 1/2 inch, its for '95 and '96 Broncos only. when you put the socket in, it fits perfect. No prongs.
