cv joint grease

I am replacing the rear cv driveshaft in my 87 with another cv driveshaft out of a 85. Is it possible to grease the factory cv joint.

Sure is. Just take the boot off and pack some grease in there. You will probably have to get new clamps to hold the boot on though. I think the factory ones are one time use.

What type of clamps would I use. Would I have to worry about the dirveshaft being out of balance.

There are ready made replacement clamps at most autoparts stores. I don't think the balancing will be a problem as the centifical force will even the grease out. Driveshafts are factory balanced as far as I know. But then again, I've been wrong before!

you can pop the factory clamps off with a screwdriver and a mallet. then put it back on the same way, just be carefull not to tear the boot.

Well it does not matter about the grease. The replacement driveshaft was to long. Just my luck seeing how it was free. Going to buy a new drivershaft when I get off work today. Hopefully this is my problem. I have a popping noise under load that I can here coming from under the vehicle. The boot on the rear cv is split don't know for how long so it need repalced anyway.
