cat removal

I have 92 2.3 5sp man. and I was wondering if removing the cat or guting it out would cause any engine codes? I only have 1 -- 02 sensor that is in front of the cat and does the egr system need the back pressure from the cat. I just replaced the 02 sensor and made the truck run much-much better and took away the cruise speed ping .

thanks for any response
any day above ground is a good one

It would probably not trip any codes, but I'm not sure why you would wanna remove or ream out the cat. Unlike the cats from the 70's, the ones nowdays are very free flowing and any gains would probably be too small to notice. The exception would be if your cat was plugged due to running overly rich for too many miles. On some engines, a little back pressure is needed by design and removing the cat can actually hurt performance.
