Question for hotwhlz85...please help
My question for you, and I really hope you can shed some light on this, is that the guy installing the engine bolted it up to the tranny and now the engine sits back about 4 inches (valve covers almost touch the firewall) and we're not even close on the motor mounts to cross member perches. I got the perches and mounts from the donor vehicle (a 79 Bronco) so they should be OK. How do I get this motor to fit?
One suggestion was to remove the bolts from the transmission and transfer case crossmember and then mount the motor on its mounts and perches and bolt it up to the frame. Then mark where the trans crossmember goes and bolt it up. Will there be enough clearance for the shift lever and 4WD lever through the floor? Also, I suppose I will need a longer driveshaft for the rear and maybe a shorter one for the front.
Please tell me if this is the way to do this. I am also hoping I won't need anymore oddball parts. I would think a drive shaft would be fairly easy to find or modify to fit.
Thanks for your help,
Alan
Good luck.

The only V8 that doesn't use the same frame pads is the 460, but, you likley won't be running across one of them anyway...

Sorry I didn't see this post until now, I've been rebuilding my computer at home. Thankfully these guys did and stepped in with good info. They're right on concerning the frame changes. The perches from an 80-86 V8 should get you where you wanna be.
Good luck and let us know how the swap goes.
Ron
