More Torque!

Does anybody have any suggestions for a good ignition system and cam that will benefit a 351W while off-roading and towing a load?
Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks,

Patrick Stefan

i got a f-150 with a 351 small block, i guess its a windsor, but it gets like 7-8 mpg and has no *****. i was thinking about doing a cam, intake, carb, and maybe heads. i don't really like the efi, it smells like raw fuel when you gas on it or leave it idling for about 5 minutes or so. if you want torque, put a diesel in it. "i have thought very hard about putting a cummins 5.9 in my 1/2 ton ford"

It is just a stock motor. I don't want to do all that much to it, but I would like to get a little more torque out of it.
I was thinking about getting the Jacobs Energy Pak Off Road Ignition Kit and either one of these cams:

I think exhaust is the place to start. Read the forum list, you will probably find more answers in another forum. Search. You gotta post the year and how the truck is equipped to get any answers.

If this is for an EEC IV equiped truck then an aftermarket ignition is not necessary. I can't say for sure on the cam.

Have you considered going with taller gears, headers and exhaust?
