I am swapping my 351m to a 460 in my 78 f250 4x4. the power steering pump and bracket that i have for my 460 is not the same as what was on my truck before. the other pump came off a 2wd will it work or does the or do i need to get a bracket for a 4x4 pump.
Todd, where did your 460 come from? I pulled one out of a van and that pump was way different than mine. I have a 2 wheel drive 73. My pump is the big pump with the little dipstick. The van pump was a saginaw pump. It was shaped like a pressed ham. Send a little more information, and I bet I can help you.

Mike, I don't know what the motor was in originally, i got it out of a 75 ford truck but somebody had put it in there. i did'nt know it until i went to take it out and the motor mounts were welded in.But it is a big round pump with a small dipstick and it mounts to the bottom of the bracket and it has a screw that pulls the pump away to tighten up the belt. does that sond like what you are thinking of?
Todd, Yes, thats the pump that I have on my 460. Your lines and everything should match right up to the 460 pump. It will be a bolt together deal for you. Do you have all the brackets and pulleys from the 460?
Mike
Yes I have everything. I hope it will bolt up and not hit my gear box. I 'll find out this weekend if my oil pan makes it here so i can put the motor in. If it bolts up with no problems it'll be the first thing that i have'nt had to spend money on to get to work right on this swap.i'm keeping my fingers crossed and my check book ready.
I wish you the best of luck Todd, these old beasts can be huge money pits. Every time I look around, mine needs parts too. If I wasn't so attached to it, I'd get another one of the General's trucks.
Mike
Wow, if you get lucky and your 460 ps brackets fit without your pump hitting your steering box, be sure to figure out the Ford part #'s, you will have hit a gold mine. Supposedly, there are none that will fit in our 78 4x trucks and that is how L&L sells so many. You can always cut and weld if you have the time and skill. (Mine are L&L). There stuff is a little pricey, but it is perfect and it works. -Dale
