Dual Tank Question

I have an '81 Ford F150 with dual tanks. The switch inside the cab that goes from font to rear tanks doesn't work on the rear tank. The front tank registers correctly, but the rear tank shows empty all the time. Just curious what's involved in getting that repaired.

Thanks in advance.

I'm having the problem in reverse. It could be the sending unit. Can you hear the valve switch from tank to tank? Can you run on the rear tank?

The valve apparently works because I can run off either tank. I get about 207 miles before it runs out. Do I still need to listen for the valve switch? Again, bottomline here is the gauge on the rear tank displays E all the time. It's not working.

My guess would be the sending unit. Some of the F series guys think it is easier to pull the bed rather than the tank. I pull the tank. I use a cheap motorcycle lift to slide under it and lower it down. I don't have to worry about the weight from the fuel that way. They were on sale at Pep Boys for about $59 not long ago. Check all your wiring first, make sure it is all connected. You might have a loose wire. And disconnect your battery. Good luck. I'm pulling mine on Saturday.

Many thanks. You're probably right. I guess I could run the tank to empty and then pull it. Is it just the two straps?
