I am on a tight budget for my 352 rebuild and I noticed that the 360 pistons are cheaper than the 352 first off why is this if anything I would think they would be more expensive and also I know that the 360 was a low compression truck engine how good is the performance everything else stock
Not only that, the 360 and the 390 share pistons in most applications. As Freightrain said, supply and demand.
The 352 is going to be the better performing engine, simply because of a higher compression ratio. I'd find the pistons that give the highest compression ratio and use them. For example, my book shows that pistons for a 1960 352HP engine would be about the best, IMO.
Your 352 has a standard bore of 4.0 inches. A 360/390 has a bore of 4.05. If you poke your 352 out to 4.05 you can use any piston for that size bore. Next consideration is compression ratio. If you are on a budget and plan to use 87 octane you will want a compression ration at or below 9-1. You need to carefully plan and do the math to insure the pistons and stroke match. If I were you and on a limited budget, I'd look for a good running 360 and put that in there.
