Exclamation Drilling for pyrometer

I had a thought. When installing a pyrometer by drilling the exhaust manifold, just before drilling through the pipe start the engine to pressurize the hole. All the drill filings will fly outward. Make sure your air cleaner is on and watch the heat.

Good idea! As an added bonus: jam a large rag up the tailpipe to create a lot of backpressure and really blow the chips out.

Thumbs up

I drilled mine with the engine off, but used one of those extendable magnet pick-up tools to probe into the manifold and remove the chips. It worked great and I didn't have to worry about anything getting into the turbo.

You also may want to put a coating of grease on the drill bit , it will help the metal chips stick to it . Although I like kwikk's answer !! LOL !
