I think you should do a search on the weight of the engines. I believe the 300's weight is actually closer to 385-series engines then anything. I can't say for sure though, sorry.
Still..I don't think the 300 is 80 pounds LIGHTER then a 302. Maybe heavier. It's HUGE.
EDIT: I searched and found in the 300 forum that the 300 weighs in at 700 pounds, give or take a few. I couldn't find the 302's weight...yet I've seen the convo's before.
If i remember right the 302 weighs around 400lbs as well, plus since its a shorter block the the 300, you would have an easier time mounting, plus theres the big aftermarket following too.
you might even get lucky and find a carbed one (we used to have, it had a four speed too) to ease the installation process, then convert it to propane and bump up the boost.
thats what i'm hopin for.....propane will be sweet for wheelin...plus...i can build a grill on the back....if i get too stuck,,,,,i'll just break out the grill...cook up some steaks and see who'll pull me out....
