It helps the limited slip differentials friction plates slip enough so they don't chatter when going around turns. It is only needed in limited slip differentials. Some oils out there already have the additive in them.

it is just for the newer ls diffs it is a super thick oil with anti wear agents royal purple already has it in there and a quart or rp is cheaper than the 1.5 oz of friction modifier www.karlracing.com and click on royal purple

Some claim to already have the additive, like Castrol, Mobil One and Valvoline Synpower. I have experienced chatter with M1 and Synpower. More additive is needed. I tried Redline and have no chatter without extra additive.
