Just purchased an 05 F250 CC PSD FX4 and love it! While test driving the Dodge and GMC, I noticed that the steering was much tighter than on the Ford. This is the only complaint I have on the Ford (besides some petty design issues). Does anyone have an answer on why there is such a difference on the steering feel?
I noticed the same thing on mine. I like a tight, responsive feel in the steering and both my SD and Expy are less tight than my previous GM vehicles-Ford steering boxes are less responsive. Other Fords I've driven, both new and old, handle the same way. From my experience it's how Ford builds them. I added a dual steering stabilizer to my SD and it now steers firm, very similar to my prev GMC.

Stock F250 4x4. I added a Rough Country dual setup for about $80. Easy bolt on job. Took about 30 minutes. Has only been on for a short time, but I like it so far. Huge difference between no stabilizer. Steering feels tight, responsive, and does not wander anymore. Prior to the stabilizer, I always fealt I was oversteering to compensate for a wandering truck. I also had issues with the front end bouncing sideways whenever I hit a pot hole or bump in the road due to the straight axle. That is all gone with the stabilizer. With the independent suspension on the 05 you shouldn't have the bouncing problem, but a heavier stabilizer might help with the loose feeling. You might want to check the steering box adjustment too? May be out of adjustment from the factory?
