Tow Hitch Upgrade

Hey Guys and Gals,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

My question. I have a 2002 Ford Escape that I just recently purchased. It has the class 2 or 1 (I believe?) Hitch. I traded in my Ranger which had the class three Hitch. Shortly before I got the escape my better half bought me this awesome hitch cover. It's an LED Ford Symbol that lights up when you apply the brakes/turn the lights on. Any who, I want to put this on the Escape so I would like to know how hard it is to swap the Hitch I have now for a Class 3 hitch. How hard would running the electrical stuff be? I don't tow anything and probably never will, this is strictly so I can use the Hitch cover (it is special to me). Thanks<o></o>

You may not be able to use the same hitch as the Ranger, but adding a hitch isn't too hard. A class I or II is a different type of hitch, and may be mounted to the body, the bumper, or the frame. If its the frame its easiest to remove it. Just order a new one (or find out if the old one will fit) and bolt it on. You should have the 4 pin wiring already in place if it came with a hitch from the factory. Good luck!

All you need is one of these 1-1/4" (Class I) to 2" (Class III) adapters:

You can also get a class 3 hitch for it at the Etrailer website, if a class 3 is made for the Escape.

Thanks for the response guys. I don't think I will get an adapter for it, it seems as if it would stick to far out for my comfort. I did check that site out and they do make class 3 for the Escape. I'll have to modify the heat shield slightly.
