I am looking at a '79 F250 4x4 Ranger edition with a 400c.i. engine. The interior is in pretty good shape, but the rear fenders are rusted clean through. I have not gotten to test drive it, but I have been told it runs and is mechanicaly sound. The guy wants $3900 which is a joke. I was wondering what yall thought it was worth, or what I should offer. On the Kelly Bluebook scale of condition it rates fair.
"Fair" condition means that the vehicle probably has some mechanical or cosmetic defects, but is still in safe running condition. The paint, body and/or interior need work to be performed by a professional in order to be sold. The tires need to be replaced. There may be some repairable rust damage. The value of cars in this category may vary widely. A clean title history is assumed. Even after significant reconditioning this vehicle may not qualify for the Blue Book Suggested Retail value.
I'd start by using the Kelley Blue Book to start a camp fire. The yellow NADA book is much more accurate if it goes back far enough. It might even list a "loan value" a bank would actually give you.
I'd also add up all the things you'll have to do to it. It could be quite a sum.
