Tow Package
I recently purchased an F250 7.3l PS from my brother in law. He lives in Texas and I live in Maryland. I bought the vehicle site unseen primarily because I knew that he took care of the the vehicle. Before I decided to buy though, I had him fax me the window sticker to make sure the truck had what I wanted. The sticker indicated that the tow package was on the truck. I will be pulling a 8000lb TT which is the real reason I needed to buy the truck. I flew to TX and drove it back to MD. The truck does have the Trans. cooler and electrical connector but does not have the hitch. My question is, should the truck have had the hitch installed at the time it was bought or was the hitch an add on item even with the trailer package?

Most of the time they come together, but it is certainly not unusual to have one without the other. In fact, the lack of a factory hitch would let you buy a heavier one, which is always nice. I wish I had a cat 5 rather than the standard cat III.

There's the hitch, and then there's the hitch receiver.
On my '03 F-250 with tow package the truck came with the receiver but not the hitch. As far as I know, the trucks are never shipped with the hitch itself.

Another common reason for this (as I discovered several '05s with Tow Command and no receiver) is that 5th wheels don't require the bumper hitch and LOTS of these trucks end up with pulling the 5ers rather than conventional bumper pull trailers of any sort.
