how cold does it have to be for the exhaust back pressure butterfly to work when you start your truck, the rpm go up but it don't close, my ex brake works home made. so butterfly is working. probably not cold out enough to work? what temp does it start working?

I think it should have closed at 20 deg. I believe it is around 40-45 deg. but do not quote me on that. I live in central MN and my truck will idle up and valve will close all winter due to extreme cold. I have noticed around the 40 deg. mark is when it will start to activate. Hope this helps.

I live in Seattle where the temperatures are usually pretty mild. My EBPV will close even up to almost 60 degrees. When it gets warmer the valve closes but the engine will only idle up a tiny bit. The colder the weather gets the higher the idle speed will go up to a max of 1100 rpm. In every case of fast idle the valve will close.
