If you do a Google search of Best Buy, you will find web sites set up by individuals, with consumer complaints listed. One of them might have the numbers. Good luck with it.

I had a similar incident with my girl friend's laptop. I took it in for repair for her and they would not send it in for repair because the serial numbers on the bottom of the laptop and the model number inside the case did not match. This obviously came from the company that way. I had to get real nasty with them and finally got them to resolve the problem. Just keep after them!

I heard a good story while watching my local news channel; It was one of those consumer bits, you see every now and again, especially the day after Xmas. Anyway, the basic point of the story was that major electronic retailers, were going to crack down on consumers that returned products. The advise they gave was simple, if anything seemed wrong with the product, you would have a difficult time returning it. These stores must have an overwhelming amount of returns, returns that can't otherwise be placed back on the store shelves. I imagine they want to make a sale at any cost...even if it means ticking off the customer over one item. I would say that you were "stonewalled" very effectively by that bunch.

You probably ran into an overzealous clerk or group of clerks that are worried about following company policy to the letter, but then they lose customers in the process. Go back on a weekday morning when the manager of the store is there, don't see an assistant, clerk, or salesperson. Explain, politely, in as few words as possible, why you think the return should be processed. If all else fails, don't give yourself anymore heartache, install it yourself and be done with it.

bigreave.....1. Never do business with them again! 2. This should be a warning to all consumers out their to check your merchandise thoroughly with a sales associate before purchasing to insure nothing is broken and all serial numbers match. Serial number on box and on the individual piece of equipment should match. No exceptions! Sounds like a pre christmas rush boondoggle from one of their brainless employees who swapped stereo units without looking at which box he was putting it into. Yes, I have purchased from BB but they certainly do have the least knowlegable group of sales people anywhere.

Did you purchase it as a new unit, or as an open-box return? If you purchased it as new, it obviously either wasn't new, or the unit was shipped from the factory with the S/N mismatched. Some states don't allow a returned item to be sold as new. Might be an angle of attack. It also may be easier to just throw it on e-Bay and be done with it, then never shop there again.

Always use a credit (not debit) card when buying such merchandise. If the store wont honor a valid return, have your credit card company reverse the charge.

I have found that if you talk in a louder voice, not mean, but loud when other customers are around, then things seem to happen in your best interest. Good luck.

The mgrs there are no more helpful than the people at the counter....

Also, not only do they treat customers like dirt, they also treat their employees the same way. Check out www.bestbuysux.org The employee rant link will keep you reading in disgust.

Call up your credit card company and ask to dispute a charge. They will probably ask you to tell your story and put it in writing. They will look into it from there.
