1995 5.8 - Engine/Trans. bucking

I have a 1995 f250 with a 5.8 & E04D(?). When the engine is under load, going up a hill, its starts to hesitate and buck a little. Continues that until I let of the gas or reach the peak and the engine load is lessened. Even if I give it gas and it down shifts, the bucking and hesitation is still there. Any ideas on what it could be..
Let me know if yuo want any more info ???

Thanks
Jason

Fire or fuel. You are going to have to do some diagnostics. When was the last time it was tuned up plugs, cap, rotor. Have you changed the fuel filter lately. A bad plug a bad wire a a bad coil can all cause this load induced missing. Not enough fuel pressure or fuel flow, dirty injectors. Is it setting any codes.

Thanks fo rthe reply.. Not sure of the last time it was tuned. Have not changed the fuel filter, setting any codes? No intrament lights are coming on. And it has not seen a computer.
all of the above is from when I have owned it. It was my uncles truck, and unfortunitly he is no longer with us to obtain this info. So i am going to guess, your going to tell me to do all of the mentioned and see what happens ??

I will work on that !!

Thanks Again
Jason

you might go over the engine and do the minor things that make a difference-air filter, spark plugs, ignition cables, fuel filter.also look at the items that are not usually thought of.fuel pump, exhaust headers, crap on the bottom of the fuel tank, squeeze in the fuel line.look it over and see what turns up.

It has a k&n air filter that I did clean, reoiled and installed in Aug. I will do the plugs, ignition cables = Plug wires?, cap and rotor & fuel filter. Should I do the coil?

The front fuel pump is shot, I am running the rear tank only. Maybe its time to fix the front and see what that does? I guess you have to take the fuel lines apart to check for clogs ?

I guess its time to clean out the garage, and pull the truck in there!! O, the wife is going to love this !! haha..

Thanks
Jason

jgrey, replace the fuel lines.if there is a problem with them there is little to do with them that would make a difference.as for the air filter, replace it.it won't be possible to clean it entirely.as for the fuel pump described for the front tank it also would need replacement.for the ignition, replacing the spark plug cables would eliminate the chance of misfire.with all the vehicles i've worked on the problems that i've addressed with them have generally been from extensive or extremely exhaustive use.the parts i've talked about in this post are usually items that need replacement after a defined period of time.one vehicle i'm working on now the current owner hasn't given it an oil change in an estimated 35,500 miles.the air filter is the second one used.the exhaust is rotted out.the fuel filter is THE ORIGINAL.and get this-this vehicle has 183,647 miles on it.this guy has put this vehicle through hell and back because he is under the impression that-"it'll run till it dies and i don't need to do too much in the way of preventitive maintinence."this guy is now replacing the motor for an estimated $1,600-$1,800 for his negligence.maintain your small items in relation to your motor.

The "bucking" might be torque converter clutch shudder. The easiest way to rule this out is to mash the gas pedal way down (not just enough to downshift, but try to aggressively accellerate).

If the bucking goes away with a heavier foot, the problem is likely to be torque converter clutch shudder. If the bucking gets considerably worse, the most likely suspect is low fuel pressure. If the bucking stays about the same, suspect the ignition components.

jgray- Check your catalytic converters. There is a chance that if one or both are bad, the excessive backpressure could be causing this. This is a quick and cheap thing to check (just not that cheap to replace unless you have the right tools) Just get something like the butt end of a hammer and rap on each converter. If you hear rattling inside, the converter is bad.

What part of E. PA are you from. I grew up near the Poconos...
