How do I remove a headlight switch from a 97 Ranger?

Thanks.

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. On 95-99 models, remove the instrument panel finish panel.
3. Unscrew the mounting nut and remove switch from panel, then remove the
wire connector from the switch.
Unfortunately, removing the cluster finish panel is a little laborius, and I'm guessing the light on the light switch has burned out, correct? I replaced mine and found a 12 volt, 10,000 hour bulb with the long leads, at Radio Shack for about $2.00. The Ford Parts person said I had to buy the entire switch and that they didn't sell the bulb separately. One of Fords better ideas.

A friend asked me to help replace the switch because the headlights went out and the dealer told them it would be $375 to replace the switch. I was just trying to get some idea what is involved before I start working on it. Thanks for the help.

Are you sure the main headlight switch is bad? My schematic is very general, but it shows three fuses associated with the headlights. One for the high beams and two for the low beams. Besure and check those. Also the headlight circuit goes thru the multi-function, hi-lo beam switch, another possible trouble source.

I have a similar unnerving problem with a '98, the headlights will suddenly go out when using the turn signal stalk. You can jiggle it and they will come back on, so I know the problem is within the switch itself. In fact, that is why I came to this forum today - to find out if anyone else has this problem and a solution.
