I am installing an under dash voltage guage in my 77 f250. The instructions only show the live wire connecting to the ignition. Which wire or where should I be hooking this end up to?
Is there an application which would require an ammeter vs a volt meter. I picked up the volt meter to monitor the charging system. What is the purpose of an ammeter
If a battery is low and the charging system is working, the needle will move to the more positive side of gauge and slowly lower at the battery gets charged more.
If the battery is right up with the charging system working, the needle will barely move off the center spot.
A voltmeter is easier to hook up. An ammeter shows true current flow, but requires and aftermarket unit to even show any useful info, and it also requires heavy wiring with careful wiring practices to make it work right and be safe.
