injector pump timing
I still have 4 to go. While i was at it I advanced the timing about 1/32". when i road tested it, it felt like a hundred bucks. seemed to have more pickup on hills, and i could rest my foot on the throttle and cruise along fine. However i did note that the engine seemed to rattle a little more than normal. however the same amount of smoke as before, only a tad of black at wot.
My question is two fold. could the rattle be from my timing adjustment, of from that leaking injectors that wouldnt seal on the bench tester. there are no leaks around the o-rings.
At what point should i get a pyrometer? Am I ok now, or can i wait until i adjust the injector pump?
Advancing the timing should not hurt the internal temps of the cylinders but any time you increase the fuel, you would be wise to install a pyrometer.
I am sure you will read a lot of different ways to get more power from the naturally aspirated engine, but the best way is still to add a turbo system and help it breathe more efficiently. Good luck with your endeavor and keep us posted.
