Well I wouldn't worry it sounds like your problem isn't to complicated. It sounds to me like the carburator needs a rebuild or to be replaced. The starting problem sounds like choke and mixture problems and the hesitation is probably the accelerator pump on the carb. I would suggest that you get a manual for it both the Haynes and Chiltons are good for these trucks, it will give a step by step process for your timing although it is not hard to adjust but it helps to see the pictures rather than my descriptions, though I don't think your timing is far off if at all. And it never hurts to change plugs, wires, cap and rotor.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-Nov-02 AT 03:20 PM (EST)]I changed the plugs this weekend. I ran out of time to do anymore. The cap and rotor and plugs will be next weekend.
Someone suggested to me that it might be the ignition module.
Funny though, the car starts perfectly when it is cold outside, regardless of the engine temperature.

I was experiencing the same problems with the same motor and a new Holley fixed her right up.. A carb rebuild may be cheaper but a new model 1160 is only about 225....

The plugs, wires, and distributor cap probably could use changing (since you're thinking of doing that anyway). But I agree that it's gonna take carb work to get you happy again.
What about doing a swap for a 4 bbl? Any suggestions? I definitely go with a dual plane intake, probably the cheap edelbrock. What carb though?
Any complications with this swap?
I see some used Ford four barrel carbs on eBay quite a bit, but how do I know what size they are? I think I'd want something around a 650 or so, right?
