distributors

I an lookig at getting a new distributor for my 1977 f-250 ranger xlt camper special. I am looking at the msd brand I have already bought a 6a ignition control box for it. do I go with a vaccume adv. or mechanical adv. which will work better.

The vacuum advance is for street use, and will give you better gas mileage. It will have the vacuum and mechanical advance built into it. During light loads such as cruising, the timing can be advanced way up to improve efficiency of the engine.

The mechanical dist is mainly for racing, and engines with very hot cams, since in racing you are pretty much wide open all the time anyway, so the engine has very little vacuum so the need for a vacuum advance is pointless.
