Today I was pumping diesel into my tank (2002 F350 7.3 4x4 S/C single 29 gallon tank) which was about 1/2 full before fueling. Anyway, after topping off the tank about 14-15 gallons I started the truck and the gauge read just above the 1/2 mark instead of full. I never had this problem before. I did have the ignition on in the "ACC" mode while listening to the radio, could this cause the problem?
I have basically the same truck as you, mine is CC but I have seen it do the exact same thing if you don't turn the key off all the way when refueling. I have no idea the cause behind it. Mine can take as much as 5 min or so to get its act together and show full. I know that the overhead console computer can get confused if you put less than 8 gallons in (or so the manual says) so maybe that translates to the fuel gauge as well. As long as it shows the real quantity of fuel a few minutes after running it I don't think it would be a big deal.
My 97 with dual tanks will read waaaayy past "F" when full, but at just under half they are empty. I don't want to ever run her dry, what do I need to do to get them to read correct?
