4X4 low no go
Hi I am new to this site. Just bought A 92 Explorer Eddie Bauer the only thing that dose not work is whene I put it in 4X4 H it works good but dont seem to be able to get it in 4X4 L. I know that the subject has been brought up A lot but I have not seen it where only the low range wont work. Makes me think that the motor and limite sw. are ok maby the controler? There are many cases where a dirty shift motor would shift into 4H but not into 4L.
another common cause of no 4L is operator error. 4x4 computer expects to see:
1) transmission in N (not P)
2) foot on brake
3) going less than 3mph (going less than 3mph with foot on brake, you might as well be stopped).

No 4X4 low?
Hello, I have an 02 sportrac that just had the same problem. I took it to the Ford dealership and they checked everything. The switch, the motor, and the 4X4 module. It turned out to be the module. Which was cheaper than the motor. Total cost for module,diagnostics and labor was 244.00 Hope this helps.
