Fuel Pressure Switch?
Here is my question. On the fuel filter housing there is what looks like an oil pressure switch that threads into the housing and has a wire that connects to the terminal. I was getting ready to go on a trip and my truck started leaking fuel. I noticed that this switch was the culprit and used a plug to replace the switch. I was wondering first off, what is the proper name for this thing, and second, what does it do? I drove to Arkansas and back to Iowa with the plug in the switchs place and the check engine light stayed off and I got 18.5 mpg at 75 mph. Anyone?

i belive what your talking about is the fuel filter restriction gauge. theres a light that comes on in the dash if the filter is plugged and causing to much backpressure on the system. ive had psd's since the first ones came out and have never seen that light come on so i couldnt imagine how nasty that filter has to get to turn that light on. ive even had a gelled filter and it still didnt come on and i know the lamp is good.

ford calls it a "vacum switch". it monitors the pressure on the fuel supply to the high pressure fuel pump...when it sees negative pressure it will turn the fuel filter restricted light on. it's about 20.00 from ford.
