Help Needed! 96 Explorer Unlocking Itself!
Tonight I was going to pull the EX in the bay to rotate and balance the wheels when the truck wouldn't start. Ran a test with the Micronics and found the battery to be crap. Put in a BRAND NEW Exide 675CCA earlier this evening, Id say about 6 pm. About an hour ago, 10:30 EST, I was taking a smoke break out front and heard my EX unlock itself and saw the interior light come on.
I asked my fiance if she was playing games and she was as serious as a heart attack when she said no. I locked it back and hit it the second time to honk and blink the lights. About 10 seconds after you lock it, it will unlock itself and keep doing it.
Now, I am not sure if this has just happened AFTER the new battery install or this is what CAUSED the dead battery this afternoon. What is everyones input on this? Maybe an electrical gremlin somewhere or the keyless module may be on crack?
Sorry for the novel, any help would be greatly appreciated, on my way out there right now to unclamp the negative cable so it wont be unlocked all night!

Enjoy FTE
See you on the boards.
Where you live, man? Maybe I'll stop over and take it for a ride..JUST KIDDING!! First thing I'd do is change the battery in the key fob. While you've got it open make sure there is no moisture inside the case, pop the circuit board out if you can and lift the pads off too. I've heard of moisture doing crazy things in the fob. If that doesn't work I'd "reprogram" the fob. Turn the key on/off (don't start) 4,5,6 times (I don't remember) until the locks start jumping up and down, then push the lock button on the fob. The doors should lock. Test all the buttons to be sure.
