Ok, some were on FTE I read about some one had a engine that the Serperntine belt was squelling badly , I just put on a new belt gates 1/2 " shorter than the one the factory call's for i have on a new alt ,water pump, air pump [smog] , hormonic ballancer, belt tencher. Some one keyed in that thay put on something thay bought from home depot & sprayed it on the belts & it would quite the beltfor 2-3 mons. all the parts were installed yesterday & yes it squelled before I changed all of these things. It did not Squell after installing them 1 hour, but this after noon it started it again. Now If I pour on a little wateron belt & start the engine it will not squell for a few mins. Help It's driving me CRAZY.
DO NOT USE ANY LUBRICANTS ON BELTS!!!
Do not use "belt dressing" either!!!
Unfortunately once a belt starts making noise they have often glazed or polished the pulleys. For a quick fix clean the pulleys with brake cleaner and try a new belt. If it still makes noise or starts up again after a while you will need to clean the pulleys and abrade them with a scotch brite abrasive pad to remove the polish and glaze. Replace the belt with another NEW belt, don't use that new belt you may have tried to fix it with, it is ruined.
-Don't ever use a lubricant on a belt, they work thru friction. A lubricant is the absolute LAST thing you want on a belt. Don't try to work on a moving belt, they will tear your arm off.
Try cleaning the grooves of the pulleys with a brush while using the brake cleaner to remove more debris. Also, look for proper alignment of the belt in relation to the components that are being driven.
People won't use the search function so it comes up time and time again. Someone always says "spray some lube" usually WD-40... That gets a giant F- !!! I fixed a kid's Jeep last year that had been WD'd, -what an absolute mess... BTW, his Jeep is working fine last I heard.
belt additives will only delay the inevitable. Check all pulley for play in their shafts. Also check pulley alignment to ensure the belt is running true.
