check engine light
i have a 1994 ford explorer 4.0 and the check engine light comes on for a minute and then goes off and does this on and off when ever it feel like any thoughts on what could be doing this thanks gary ps can't check codes doesn't stay on long enough

Does this mean you are operating under the (common) misconception that the EEC-IV system doesn't output codes unless the check engine light is currently on? Then let me debunk that myth. When the check engine light comes on during normal operation, the computer should store a code in continuous memory (CM), for retrieval later.
Codes can be pulled with nothing more than paper clip, with the codes being output as flashes of the check engine light. Procedure can be found in any self-respecting repair manual. I like the set of instructions at www.dalidesign.com/hbook/eectest.html under tests.
PUll the codes, noting which are KOEO, KOER, and CM. then post them here and let's see if we can help you from there.
