How big of a Difference?

Can one get away with between the differences in front and rear gear's? I wondering this because i have never seen a straight answer on this before. Is a difference of .45 big enough to cause problems (i know in the mud having the front tires spin faster helps keeps the front afloat) or does the difference have to be smaller?

I am gonna make an assumption here in that you are talking about your boggin truck, and .45 is alot but not totally out of range my .12 is not quit enough wish I had gone about .25 (used 5.14 in the rear) but in a mud only it isn't gonna hurt anything at that difference and will really help keep you straight in the pit. I think the wildest split I have ever seen was on a rail that had 6.14 in the rear, and 4.56 front but he had 38s in the rear, and 35s front but that still works out to a pretty good split.

Yeah I'm taking about my boggin truck (i know where i can get a dana 70 with 4.56gears, and i was thinkings of runing 4.10 up front). I've seen rigs running staggered gearing/tire size. I didn't think that that difference wouldhelp keep the truck straight, thanks for the info.

Just vary your tiresize front and rear. This will also save money =).
