Maybe someone can help me out. 1994 F-150 XLT high beams won't stay on unless you hold the turnsignal lever with your hand. I don't know much about these newer trucks, and would appreciate any advise. Anybody else have this problem? Is it a tough fix?
Thanks for the reply93green150.
The highbeams don't work when you push the lever forward. They won't work unless you pull back on the lever like your flashing your headlights. I don't know if that is a problem with the dimmer switch, or something else?
More than likely your multi-function switch. Easy to replace. About $50.00 @ Ford. If you don't have a Chilton's or Haynes, post and I am sure one of us will walk you through it. Replace mine in my '94 F250 in under 20 minutes.

When the switch is held back it activates what is called a flash to pass feature. Does this intensify the low beam side of the headlight bulb or actually switch to bright? I actually don't know. If it intensifies the low beam side, it is possible that both bulbs are burned out on the high beam side.
The flash to pass actually activates the high beam headlights while leaving the low beams on also. This gives you all four elements active at once whereas switching to highbeams turns off the lowbeams.Popa Tim
