Ford Ranger PROBLEM

My 4x4 is not working. My biggest fear in buying a truck with a dash mounted switch instead of a reliable lever on the floor has been realized. It is snowing like crazy and I am not able to use 4 wheel drive. Anyway, the switch is working, the relays are clicking and the actuator on the T-case works fine. Part of the problem is that I am unable to figure out what all the wires do at the actuator. There are 5 wires in addition to the 2 for the motor. I assume they are there to "index" the motor for 2 hi, 4 hi and 4 low. Anyway, is there anyone out there who has had the same problem and has a sollution? Or, has anyone heard of a manual "kit" to replace this crap?

Are your automatic hubs working? With the truck running in neutral engage 4H with the electic gizzmo switch, pull the truck forward a few feet and set the parking brake, with the truck running in neutral get out and try to turn your cv shafts on both sides they should not turn, if they do then you may have a vacuum problem with the auto hubs. Just an idea best of luck, your not the only one with these fears of the electric stuff not working, I too wounder every time I use 4WD if it will work.
