Taurus problem

I'm working on a 93 SHO, and I'm only getting 6.75 volts at the fuel pump, anyone know what would cause this? I can not get the fuel pump to work it's a no go with out it. Thanks, Allen

Usually, on any EFI vehicle when you are not getting enough voltage to the fuel pump the fuel pump relay is at fault. On many Fords (dont know about a 93 SHO) it is right next to the ECM relay and they are usually coded different colors (brown green etc.). So if you go to the parts store and get a green one, replace the green one on the fender.

You should test the voltage going into and out of the relay before assuming it is bad. Usually a relay is all or nothing and if you are getting 6.75 volts I would question if this is the proper voltage or not.

You could also ask at www.shoforum.com if you haven't already fixed the problem.

Additionally... check for corrosion on the ground pigtail and cycle the rollover protection switch several times to make sure that it is flowing all the juice it is supposed to. The fuel pump may be drawing more juice than normal if it is 'elderly'. An amp draw test will confirm or refute the possibility that the pump is on the way out, as old pumps that were not cooled by enough fuel in the tank (running down the fuel level consistently) tend to draw more.

Thanks for the address on the forum on SHO's, I did not know about it. Tomw, I will check to grounds agin, I did cycle the rollover switch 4 or 5 times and the pump is new, put in when the car quit. The old pump was only 2 years old. Thank for the response. Allen
