cncfarmer was correct......the last time I looked at Rotella T syn, it was rated CH-4. I went to the Shell web site a month or so ago, and it had a rating of CH-4. I just went to the site again, and it has been changed to CI-4. They only did this recently. I have yet to see a container labeled CI-4 on the shelf anywhere I can find this oil around Shreveport, La. All of them say CH-4, so this is a new rating for this oil. I'm sure they have some more current labeled bottles in different parts of the country. I spent days looking at oil containers before I did my first oil change on my 03, and Rotella T was the first oil I looked at, just didn't have the rating back then.
cncfarmer, why do you say the Rotella T syn is not "recommended" for the 6.0. According to Ford owner manual diesel supplement, if it is API CI-4, CH-4 is acceptable if CI-4 is not available.
I was going to use Rottella T synth since the website said it was CI-4. That was last July and I have not found one in the stores yet rated anything other than CH-4. That is a long time for a change over that has not happened yet. I still look to see if the Rottella CI-4 is on the shelf when I buy Mobil truck/suv.
Just went outside to stoke the woodstove in the garage and grabbed a bottle of Rotella T 5W-40. Just got it a month ago. No CI-4 rating on this bottle but it does have the CH-5. Page 29 of my 6.0 manual says, If Ci-4 is not available, ch-4 is acceptable... SBV45 already stated this.
I have had no problems running with it so as long as it is acceptable via ford I'm not worry about it. Tried to find a "Born on date" but all I saw was 2004.
