Speaker Choice

I have a 2000 F150 Super Cab and put in a set of 6X8" Pioneer 2 way speakers.

The power handling in them is 50 Watts Nominal and 200 Watts Peak

Would there be any damage to sound quality if i were to install a set of Pioneers with 50 Watt Nominal and 220 Watts Peak.

My friend says that i would be pulling uneven amoounts of power.

You'll be fine....Both sets draw the same amount of power(50w) Ignore the peak rating, its useless.

Your friends are incorrect. Just because a speaker can handle more wattage doesn't mean that it draws more power. There would be no harm to your head unit by installing those Pio's.

What your friends might be thinking about are Ohms. The typical car speaker is 4-8 ohms. If you have no idea what I am talking about, ohms refer to resistance. The higher the ohm rating, the more the resistance. The only way you could damage your head unit would be to run speakers with a lower ohm rating than the HU could handle because lower ohm ratings do draw more power.

Reading over what I just wrote confused me...hopefully someone will come along who can explain it better than I can.

Nah its alright, I learned a little bit about Ohms in my auto class, and when i bought an amp for my old subs. But i understand exactly what you mean.

You guys are the best and i will probably be back for more Since this is my first Ground up system.
