Truck has sat for ~9 days w/ no activity. Now dash lights were dim, etc..., turn key -- click, click, click.. NO START. (maybe I left something ON, plugged in??? I dunno!!??)
My First Diesel...
Two Batts? Have had two sets of batt cables from car going to both Batts for over 1/2 hr... Still no Start. I DO get "crank, crank, crank", followed by "click, click, click..." Not Enuf Juice YET??
Okay, okay, okay.... Lesson Learned... PaTiEnCe!! It did take a while, but that old beast eventually turned over enuf to kick in... Now just gotta figure out what drained it!!??
Sorry for crying wolf... (but thought there could/might be something I was unaware of...)
Check the ....Tech Folder.... and follow the procedures in the battery disconnect and Torqshift Learning procedures. All the "learning" will have been wiped out.
Easy way to check if there is a drain on your batteries is to disconnect each (BOTH) ground cables. Obtain a test light (circuit tester). On one battery at a time- connect the clamp end to the post of your battery, touch the probe end to the ground cable. It MAY briefly light up as it charges a memory section in a computer, but it should immediately go completely dark. If it stays illuminated on either battery, there is a considerable drain on that battery's circuit. Afterwards, while the light is on, look for something that is on (CB radio, brake controller????, anything powered from battery power) when you find it and turn off whatever it is or unhook it, the test light will go off. Depending on the pull of the computers and radio memory, etc. there may be a VERY slight glow while testing one of the batteries, but again VERY slight. When you are done, reconnect the batteries and be sure to follow the disconnect and trans relearning procedures exactly to make sure everything works right. Good luck. Mat
If you do that, you have to do the "relearn procedure" or it will run spotty for a while. See the ....Tech Folder.... on battery disconnect and Torqshift relearn procedure.
Hey it sounds like my story! I had the same problem that all of a sudden the interior dash lights would stay on and not turn off, everything as if the truck had a key in it with it in the "on" position. I brought it to Ford and they said it was the alternator and they are replacing it, thats after almost 2 weeks at the shop now and I will get it back Monday. Do the lights stay on all the time inside, or was it that one time?
