strang noise

My 82 bronco has started making noise. It first sounded like wind noise but it is not. It starts after it is driven 10 to 12 miles it is not from the engine area. it comes on all of a sudden and does not see to change under load or not. It is like a whistle or whine Any idea what to look for. It seems to come and go.

Could you be a little more clear? Where in the cab is it coming from? The vents? Firewall? Floor? Door? Have you stuck your head under the hood while it running to try to narrow it down?

It's hard to tell from your description, but I will give it a shot. The fact that it starts after 10-12 miles leads me to think that it starts as soon as the truck warms and thermostat opens. Then you said that it comes and goes; perhaps a bad thermostat opening and closing.

You may have a bad thermostat which is behaving erratically and possibly sticking in places and causing a restriction that gives you the noise. You also may have air in the system.

Does the noise sound like it is coming from the glovebox area (heater core)?

I have checked under the hood the noise seems to be comining from under the truck. I replaced the u-joints and cardan joint 10,000 miles ago. ihave checked all vent tubes still nothing the noise just starts all of a sudden and will change pitch but changing the load on the drive train or coasting does not seem to make it change.
