My '93 F150 5litre 5 speed has a vibrating shake when under power at 2,500 and higher RPM. It only does it with the clutch engaged. The gear lever shakes and you can feel the truck shaking slightly. It feels like a car I had that had an unbalanced driveshaft. The U Joints in the driveshaft feel OK. I have a second problem that might be related. My clutch's hydraulic system has a leak somewhere. I have bled the system, which holds for about 2 or 3 days then develops an air pocket. I can regain pressure by pumping the pedal. The transmission case is covered with some kind of fluid. I checked the tranny oil level and topped it up by .5 litre. Vibrating problem not fixed. I have bought a new master cylinder for the clutch but haven't installed it yet. Here's my guess, see what everyone else thinks. Maybe the slave cylinder is leaking inside the bellhousing, which is the liquid covering the tranny case. The fluid might be covering the friction plate which is causing the clutch to shudder. The truck has 100,000 miles on it and is probably the original clutch and the truck is 11 years old. Any other guesses? I don't feel like removing the tranny to fix this , but if I have to, I don't have any other choices.
Does it vibrate at that rpm sitting still too? Just guessing, I would say a clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, release bearing. pilot bushing/bearing, and the slave cylinder you have should fix your problem. As far as the clutch being engaged? That means pushed in, doesn't it? Are you talking pedal pushed in, or let out?
i have similar problem in my 94, 4wd 4.9L, m50d. haven't done the rear driveshalft ujoints, but have a leaky tranny and just topped it up too. i get intense vibration when letting the engine do some of the braking, too.
I get the vibration when my foot is not on the clutch pedal, that's what I mean when I say that the clutch is engaged. The vibration is most noticeable when I step on the accelerator. If I let off on the accelerator, the vibration lessens or stops. It is most noticeable at speeds over 40 mp/h. I can feel it more in four wheel drive too. I'm paying a mechanic friend of mine to change my clutch, pressure plate, and slave cylinder because I've determined that is what's causing my hydraulic leak (my tranny is coated in fluid). I don't feel like spending a day in my mother's drafty carport underneath my truck with melting snow dripping on my face. I'll get him to see if he notices anything else wrong with the truck that might cause the vibration. Any hints or help would be nice.
OK, my mechanic friend repaired everything. The vibration was from a bad u joint in the driveshaft at the transfer case. My clutch slave cylinder was dead, and the flywheel was cracked. He changed the clutch too. I had a problem with the truck idling too fast. He had to change the throttle position sensor. He had to clean and adjust the throttle body plates too.
