Finally, Finally, Finally.... I just finished installing my new EFI motor last night. I went over everything twice before I cranked her up, after about an hour of tweaking with the timing and some wiring, she finally idled on her own. Since it was late and I was running open headers I didn't have that mnuch time to play with her. This morning I ran her up to the muffler shop to get my Headers welded to a Y pipe to connect the rest of my exhaust. On the way though I ran into a problem. My transmission didn't seem to want to go. I was running high RPMs just to make her move. I had my wife following me and she noted that at max speed I was only going 25. From a dead stop she didn't want to move at all. All the levels are good and the tranny worked great before the engine change.
Here's my theory...
I changed my engine in my driveway which has a pretty good slope to it. If you look in my picture album there is a couple pics of my truck on my driveway so you can get an idea. When I pulled the motor I left the tranny in the truck, but I had to remove the dipstick because of where it was mounted. I have a C-6 mounted to a 302 EFI by the way. Anyway, when I removed that I lost a lot of fluid, I'd say close to 3-4 quarts. It sat like this for about 3 weeks while I was doing the build-up of the new motor in my garage. I think that during this time the oil in the torque converter came out and it is having a hard time going back in. DOes anyoine else think this is the case, and if so, how can I fix it. I tried backing up a slight hill and shifting it back and forth to try and cycle the fluid in there. It got a little better, but not much. Is the pump in the transmission shot, or could it be something else? I also am running an aftermarket cooler if that makes a difference.
Any help or tips would be most appreciated. Anyone?

well....Did you bring the fluid up to specs? When you bolted the engine up to the tranny did the front shaft mate correctly? You may just coincidentally have a new tranny problem or you may have sheered the converter shaft by not having it properly mated at engine start up. Best of luck.............
Come to find out it wasn't the tranny at all. After I got the exhaust welded on and things quieted up a bit, the problem became clear. Well, I still had to trouble shoot it a bit, but I soon figured it out. The giveaway was on the headers, only two pipes on each side looked like they were working. I know that's not the best way, but the paint was burned off on only 4 pipes total so I knew that something was up. Don't ask me how I couldn't tell that but with open headers, it didn't sound that bad, hehe. Anyway, after checking for spark on the wires and the plugs and all was good, it could be only one thing, I didn't wire it up right. After looking in the book at the same diagram that I used before it was all good. Now, for those of you with a Haynes you'll see they have two diagrams in there. For the 302 motors one is for a 1995 and up, and the other is for a 1994 and earlier. Well, needless to say I chose the wrong diagram to follow. Also, as I was looking at the two, the cylinders that weren't working on my motor were the cylinders switched on the two diagrams, so I knew right there. After adding new wires for the heck of it and re-wiring it, she purr's like a kitten now. I put close to 50 miles on the new motor last night just cruising around, all at low RPM's of course. At a dead stop she really wants to go, I can really feel the difference in the new motor. I got a few pics during the install but haven't had them developed yet. After I get back from a "trip" I have to go on for the military I will post them. Check my gallery every once in a while to see them.
